Bennie Devon Craig, 82, of Churubusco, Indiana passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Parkview Main Hospital. Born September 29, 1941, in Madison, Indiana he was the son of the late Benjamin Craig and Walter and Helen (Ogden) Schneider.
He attended Columbia City Joint High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1958-1962. On October 12, 1962, he married Wanda Lou Johnson. Bennie worked at Dana Spicer Axel for over 30 years, retiring in 1993. In 1994, he went to work for Walmart in Columbia City and retired from the Huntington store in 2006. Bennie also had worked for Coble Asphalt. He loved NASCAR, football, hockey, westerns and Storage Wars.
Bennie is survived by his son, Verlin (Valerie) Craig of Churubusco, Indiana; daughters, Melissa Sandager of Churubusco, Indiana, and Monica Craig of Howe, Indiana; brother, Gaylan Craig of Plymouth, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Kristina Craig of Warsaw, Indiana; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and beloved dog, Diamond Blue. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 12 years, Wanda Lou (Johnson) Craig; son, Walter Craig; and infant grandson, Walker Evans Lesley-Craig.
Visitation will be 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm Saturday, May 4, 2024, with a Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
