Elaine A. Burns, 76, of Columbia City, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023, at home surrounded by family.  Born November 4, 1946, in Fort Wayne, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Rumsyre and Helen (Redman) Rumsyre.

She graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1965. On March 1, 1969, she married Ralph Edward Burns in Athens, AL. Elaine held numerous jobs including Washington Center School as a custodian, Bondflex Rubber Company and Columbia City Post & Mail in which she retired in 2008 after 18 years. Her most important job was that as a wife, sister, mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Elaine is survived by her loving husband, Ed Burns; her beloved dog, Hunter; devoted children, Tammy Maynard, Rhonda Rogers, Brian (Christina) Burns, Amy (David) Potts; 13 grandchildren, Joshua Fosnaugh, Bailey Girvin, Jordan (Jana) Schinbeckler, Kyle (Jaley) Schinbeckler, Savannah &  Joshua Hecht, Gabriel, Madeline & Mackenzie Burns and Abigail, Olivia, Elizabeth & Braden Potts; 4 great grandchildren, Kynlee & Kohen Schinbeckler and Paxton & Presley Schinbeckler; sister, Liane (Larry) Creech; and brother, Larry Rumsyre. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, David Rumsyre; and sister, Diane Thompson.
