John Duffy

John C. Duffy, 91, of Columbia City, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning, June 4, 2021 at Majestic Care West. Born December 20, 1929 in Lafayette, he was the son of Peter and Dorothy (McGann) Duffy.

He graduated from Jefferson High School with the Class of 1949. He served in the U.S. Army in the infantry and military police during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He went on to graduated Purdue University in West Lafayette in 1956. On August 20, 1955, he married Lois J. Clemens in Milwaukee, WI. John taught and coached for five years in the Fort Wayne Community Schools. He retired after 31 years as an account executive for the Morton Salt Company. John and Lois moved in 1993 after 36 years from Fort Wayne to Columbia City. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the American Legion in Columbia City, and the Korean Veterans Association in Fort Wayne, and a Charter Member of the YMCA in Columbia City.

John is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lois Duffy, daughters, Susan (Paul) Grim, Sharon (Dale) Dunten and Chrisanne (Gregory) Shields; brother, James Duffy; grandchildren, Joseph (Frederique) Grim, David (Michelle) Grim, Laura Cartwright, Julie (Leo) Olden, Lindsay (David) Bischoff, Michael (Allison) Dunten, Erica Johnston, Alexander Duffy/Sears and Marissa (Jack) Campell; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Daisy Duffy, Violet Hagen, Dorothy Fischer, Ethel Duffy, Virginia Darrington, Edith Siconolfi; and brothers, Harold Duffy and Robert Duffy.

A memorial service will be 12 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Phil Ritner will be officiating and military honors being rendered by the Whitley County Korean War Veteran’s Honor Guard.
