AILSA L. "BILLIE" SCHUMAN

March 27, 1918 — March 19, 2012

Ailsa L. "Billie" Schuman, age 93, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 11:55 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2012 at Miller's Merry Manor, Inc., Columbia City. Born March 27, 1918 in Ormas, IN, she was the daughter of Donald C. and Goldie B. (Adair)Goodrich.

She graduated from Ligonier High School with the Class of 1936. For 22 years, she lived in the Pierceton and North Webster areas before moving to Columbia City in 1990. She worked at the Pennsylvania Railroad for 6 years prior to working as a secretary for Columbia City Freight Lines for 22 years. Also instrumental in bringing bowling to the Columbia City area, she was associated in operating Schuman Lanes for a number of years. She was a member of Women of the Moose, VFW Auxiliary, AARP Chapter, charter member of Eagles Auxiliary all of Columbia City. She was past president and honorary life member of North Webster American Legion Auxiliary #253.She was also a member of the Community Bible Church, Columbia City.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Krider of Columbia City; son, DeVon (Millie) Schuman of Columbia City; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; brother, Lynn (Marlene) Goodrich of Wolf Lake; 2 sisters, Ellen Metzger of Fort Wayne and Shirley (Jim) Coy of Topeka. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Aileen Hill, brothers, Hale and Phil Goodrich, son-in-law, LeRoy Krider and cousin, Floyd Hawn.

Visitation is Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service is Friday, March 23, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Thorn Cemetery, Ormas. Memorial gifts may be given in Mrs. Schuman's memory to Community Bible Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
