Alex Flannery, age 62, of Columbia City, passed away at 8:17 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City.Born on February 4, 1948 in Floyd County, KY, he was the son of Creed Calvin and Barbara Alice (Bradley) Flanery. (spelled with only 1 n)
He was raised in Kentucky moving to Indiana in 1963 at the age of 15 to Kosciusko County living there until 1970 moving to Tri Lakes for brief period and then moved to his present home in 1970.He attended Silver Lake High School, Silver Lake and on March 9, 1968 he married Pamela Jo Reynolds in Claypool.He worked at Big Boy Products, Warsaw, Essex Wire & Cable, from September 1969 until 2003 as a rod mill operator, during the 70-80's he also worked part time for Smith Brothers Standard & Sam's Sunoco and then from 1986-1996 he worked for Lassus Brothers as a part time cashier.He was a member of B.T. Roberts Free Methodist Church and the churches CYC Youth Group.He coached girls softball, boy's Pony League and played on the men's church league basketball and played softball at Morsches Park.He loved Nascar, Pittsburg Steelers, Atlanta Braves, Colts and was an avid camper and especially enjoyed sharing lots of family memories at Jellystone Campgrounds, near North Webster.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Pamela Jo Flannery of Columbia City; 3 daughters, Jodi R. (Gary) Sims of South Whitley,Jan E. (Gary) Sroufe of South Whitley and Amanda J. (Rolland) Bonjour of Columbia City; 5 grandchildren, Jordan and Sydney Sims, Hunter and Spencer Sroufe and Analeigh Bonjour; 3 step grandchildren, Austin and Zoey Baeum and Kayle Mink; 2 brothers, Marvin (Sandy) Flannery of Claypool and Curtis (Janet) Flannery of Silver Lake; 3 sisters, Millie Prater of Rochester, Cassie (Dan) Bradley of Winona Lake and Janavee (Mander) Prater of Roann.He was preceded in death by his parents and 7 brothers and sisters including, Arnold, Evelyn, Oris, Creed Calvin, Lawrence, Lloyd Flannery and Tealie Spears.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.Funeral services will be held at at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010 at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Barton of South Whitley United Methodist Church and family friend, Bruce Wrightsman officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery, Columbia City. Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Flannery to American Lung and Diabetes Associations.
