ALICE M. HARBER

January 31, 1930 — October 18, 2012

Alice M. Harber, age 82, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 4:05 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012 her home. Born January 31, 1930 in Fort Wayne, IN, she was the daughter of Charles L. and Mildred (Flick) Buchanan.

She graduated with the Class of 1948 from Central Catholic High School, Fort Wayne. On October 9, 1948, she married Joseph Marion Harber at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Fort Wayne. A lifetime resident of Allen and Whitley counties, she lived at her present Jefferson Township home since 1993. In addition to being a devoted housewife and mother, she worked at Flick's Flowers and in the cafeteria and as a secretary at Lincoln Life. Her memberships included St. Patrick's Catholic Church where she was a member of the Rosary Sodality, Whitley County Home Demonstration Club, Irish Loaners, Linc's Retirees Club, Card Club and the Tri-State Jay Bird Camping Club.

She is survived by her children, Robert J. Harber of New Haven; Mary (Kenneth) Shaw of Ossian; Kenneth L. Harber of Columbia City; Sharon (Juergen) Mauger of Huntington; Ed (Sue) Harber of Columbia City; Nancy (Bill) Arivett of Huntington; and Susan (Michael) Phillips of Columbia City; 20 grandchildren; 20
great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Subdza of Fort Wayne; sisters-in-law, Mary Francis Strack of Fort Wayne and Delores Harber of Columbia City. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years, Joseph M. Harber; brother, Samuel Buchanan; sister, Mary Smith-Olson; and grandson, Jacob Sean Harber.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 21, 2012 from 2 - 6 p.m. with a Rosary service at 5:30 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, October 22, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Arcola, with one hour of calling prior to service. Burial at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Arcola. Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Harber for Masses or Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home.
