ALLAN GEORGE JOHNSON

February 15, 1927 — October 1, 2009

Allan G. Johnson, age 82, of Columbia City, IN died unexpectedly Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. Born on February 15, 1927 in Chicago, IL he was the son of George and Mae (Swanson) Johnson.He attended Sures High School in Chicago, IL graduating with the Class of 1945. He then attended Purdue University graduating in 1950 with degrees in Chemical and Electrical Engineering. A long time resident of Fort Wayne, IN he owned and operated Capacitor Technology in Fort Wayne for 20 years. He then moved to Gering, Nebraska where he worked at Filcap for 12 years prior to his retirement. He was a resident of Gering, NE for 22 years before returning to Indiana in August of 2009. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, a volunteer with AARP as well as a volunteer at the senior center in Gering, NE.He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Peggy A. Johnson of Columbia City; sons,David (Holly) Johnson of Morton Grove, IL, Tim (Christina) Rice of Columbia City,and Tom (Mary) Rice of Columbia, IL; daughters, Beverly (Al) Johnson-Soell of Skokie, IL, Lauren (Mark) Naumann of Lakeville, MN, Lynn (David) Herbig of Skagway, Alaska, and Johaunna Thornton of Vista, CA; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy "Dottie" Bockstiegal of Arlington, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son Christopher A. Johnson.A service of remembrance was held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN with Rev. Tim Kumfer officiating. Memorials in memory of Mr. Johnson may be made to the American Heart Association, envelopes are available at the funeral home.
