Alvena Maxine Dolby, age 96, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 9:37 a.m. Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Parkview Oaks, Columbia City. Born on February 2, 1917 in Ossian, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Nellie (Confer) Middaugh.
She moved from Ossian as a child to live in Brooksville, Ohio. She graduated from Brooksville High School and earned her bachelor degree from Huntington College. On August 12, 1940 she married Phillip Raymond Dolby in Huntington. Following their marriage, they moved to Stark Co. and in 1957 moved to Columbia City. After teaching 30 years at various schools, she retired from Thorncreek Township School. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was a very caring lady. She was a member of the Columbia City United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women-Phoebe Circle.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn (David) Squier of Pahrump, NV; sister, Evelyn Baker of Huntington; grandson, David Squier, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV; and great-granddaughter, Abby Squier. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter, Diane Marie Squier and brother, Paul Middaugh.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 1 to 3 p.m. with the funeral service at 3 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Rev. DavidArnold officiating. Burial will follow at Nolt Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given in Mrs. Dolbys memory to Columbia City United Methodist Church.
