Anita R. Gross, 95, of Columbia City, Ind., passed away at 12:24 a.m. Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Heritage Pointe of Fort Wayne. Born July 10, 1923 in Edgerton, OH, she was the daughter of Olando "Lanny" Suffel and Esther (Freed) Suffel.
She attended Angola High School until she was a sophomore. On December 12, 1945, Anita married George Gross. They moved from Colorado to Fremont, Ind. in 1949 and in 1952, they moved to their home in rural Columbia City. She worked as a Secretary/Office Manager at Dowell Insurance in Columbia City for 25 years. She was a member of the Columbia City United Methodist Church and the National Campers and Hikers Assoc. since 1965 and was a former member of the Business and Professional Women.
Survivors include her son, Phil (Terri) Gross, of Fort Wayne; daughter in law, Lorraine Gross, Hurricane, UT; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Gross; sons, Gary Hensel and Richard Gross; and sisters, Charlotte Cape and Freida Gibbeny.
Visitation is 1-4 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 2018 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Johnson of Oak Grove Church of God officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove (Compton) Cemetery.
