Anna Margaret Swihart, age 94, of Columbia City, Ind. passed away at 7:50 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2010, at Miller's Merry Manor, Columbia City.Born on April 15, 1916 in Elgin, Ill. she was the daughter of Peter H. and Phoebe Helen (Farney) Bahr.
She was born and raised in Elgin, Ill. before moving to Toledo, Ohio and Fort Wayne, Ind. She was married in Allen County and lived in Huntington County for 50 years before moving to Whitley County in 1998. She attended South Side High School, Fort Wayne.On January 24, 1942, she married Ralph Jacob Swihart in Waynedale, Ind.She was a secretary for Dr. Robert E. Bahr Medical Office in Fort Wayne, IN for 13 years, retiring in 1977.She was a member and past-president of the American Legion Auxiliary #160, Roanoke, Ind.as well as a member of New Hope Wesleyan Church, Columbia City.
Survivors include her 2 daughters, Nancy (Donald) Davis of Columbia City, Eleanore Bodenhamer of Tulsa, OK; 1 son, Leroy Swihart of Texas; and brother, Dr. Robert (Sue) Bahr of Fort Wayne, IN; 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ralph Jacob Swihart, brothers, Eugene, Joseph and Ted Bahr, sisters, Helen Rizzo and Mildred Kaminer, and granddaughter, Anna Bodenhamer.
Visitation is from 4 p.m.-8 p.m., Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN.Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m.on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at New Hope Wesleyan Church, 971 N 400 W, Columbia City with calling one hour prior. Pastors Barry Faucett and Jason Tash will officiate with burial to follow at Jefferson Chapel (Sandbank) Cemetery.Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Swihart to New Hope Wesleyan Church Building Fund or the donor's choice of charity.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
