BARBARA JOAN SCHNABEL

August 22, 1927 — July 6, 2008

Barbara Joan Schnabel of Midlothian, Virginia passed away on July 6, 2008 from a sudden illness. She was born on August 22, 1927 in Columbia City, Indiana to the late Homer A. and Vera M. Schinbeckler. She graduated from Columbia City High School in 1945 and St. Lukes School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois in 1949. She worked as a surgical and psychiatric nurse in Chicago. In 1949, she married the late Herbert W. Schnabel and they moved to Alliance, Ohio in 1956. While living in Alliance, she acquired a devotion for the sport of golf, which continued until her death. She also resided in Florence, Alabama and Cottage Grove, Minnesota before moving to Midlothian with her husband for retirement in 1993. She was a member of Brandermill Country Club and First English Lutheran Church in Richmond, Virginia. Survivors include a daughter, Marybeth Langer of Oklahoma and a sister, Carole Schinbeckler of Columbia City, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, sister, Maxine Schinbeckler, and twin brother, Keith Pickle Schinbeckler. A brother, Donald Schinbeckler, died after Barbara on July 16, 2008. Funeral service is 4 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2008 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, with Pastor Judy Follis of Hope Lutheran Church officiating. Burial to follow at Jefferson (Sandbank) Cemetery, Columbia City. Memorial bequests may be given in memory of Mrs. Schnabel to the Peabody Public Library.
