Much of the world was filled with talk of the ending of the Korean War and Queen Elizabeth II being crowned Queen of England in 1953. The beginning of the year for Woodrow and Anna Ray (Blair) Calhoun was more centered around the birth of their fourth born child. Barbara M. or “Marty” to her sisters and family was born February 11, 1953 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.

She attended local schools and enjoyed her time with her siblings as they ran outside and spent times in the hills of Kentucky.  By the age of 15, Barb’s father moved the family to Kosciusko County, Indiana as he also moved from working in the coal mines to working for an orthopedics company. She attended Warsaw High School and worked at various factories following.

Barb was a hard worker and dedicated to what she did and after a factory would close their doors, she would find another opening at another local factory. While working at Whitley Products, Barb met Cheyenne Stewart and on October 23, 1981, the two were married and made South Whitley their home as they raised their sons. Along with working at Whitley Products, she also worked at Seamco, Stumps and Fox Products.

Family meant the most to Barb and she loved doing things together as a family. She found relaxation in quilting, crafts and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a great cook and enjoyed gardening, feeding and watching birds and traveling with her family. She and Cheyenne went on many great motorcycle trips and the past few years traveled with her family including taking a trip to Hawaii and taking her grandchildren to Disney World.

Barbara "Marty" M. Stewart, passed away Monday, August 10, 2020 at her home in Columbia City at the age of 67 after a three year battle with cancer. She is survived by her sons, Steve Patton, Doug (Kary) Patton and Jeremiah (Meghan) Stewart; sisters, Deb (Richard) Kemper and Theresa Wilson; brother, Jim (Katrina) Calhoun; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Anna Ray Calhoun; husband, Cheyenne Stewart on August 9, 2016; son, Jason Stewart on May 18, 2020; sister, Martha Prater; and grandson, Christopher Patton.
