Betty J. Alberty, 96, formerly of Columbia City, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Signature Health Care, Fort Wayne. Born July 10, 1921 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Andrew J. and Esther (Adams) Robison.
She was born and raised in Indianapolis and graduated from Arsenal Tech High School with the Class of 1939. Following her marriage to Donald Alberty on October 30, 1940, they moved to Columbia City in 1946. In 1964, they moved to Goshen until 1970, when they moved back to Indianapolis. Betty retired as an assistant manager at Westminster Village North Retirement Center in Indianapolis. For 10 years she was a volunteer at the Indiana Historical Society. Prior to that, she volunteered for many years at the Planned Parenthood Midtown Clinic. She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia City.
Survivors include her son, Joseph (Erica) Alberty, of Fort Wayne; granddaughter, Sarah (Jack) Kauffman Michael; and grandson, Michael Alberty. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Susan Kauffman; and sister, Dorothy Robison.
A private graveside service was held Monday, April 2, 2018 at Greenhill Cemetery, Columbia City where she was laid to rest beside her husband. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the S.P.C.A. Visit
