Betty Janice Douglas, age 91, of Sarasota, FL passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Sunnyside Health and Rehab Center, Sarasota, FL. Born on April 30, 1927 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Arthur Howard and Elva Ernestine (Wirsching) Wigent.
She graduated from Coesse High School with the Class of 1944 and furthered her education by taking classes at Purdue University and Findlay College, Findlay, OH. She also graduated from CNA training and started her LPN courses after retiring to Sarasota, FL. On June 30, 1946, she married Reverend Thomas Meade Douglas in Findlay, OH. She was a loving pastor's wife, payroll clerk for LML Corporation, Columbia City and caregiver to elderly friends and family in Sarasota. She served churches in Nappanee, IN; Leadwood, MO; Columbia City, IN; Syracuse, IN; Indianapolis, IN; Franklin, PA and Sarasota/Osprey, FL.
Survivors include her sons, Reverend Robert W. (Judy) Douglas of Bradenton, FL; Reverend Douglas Lee (Rebecca) Douglas of Lafayette, GA; daughter, Gay Lynne (Pastor Dan) Ledley of Casey, IL; 9 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Thomas Douglas, sister, Lenora Mowrey and daughter-in-law, Sharon (Culbertson) Douglas.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City and 1 hour prior to her funeral services which will be Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 11 a.m. with members of her family officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove (Compton) Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Winebrenner Seminary, Findlay, OH. Visit
