Betty Jean Gray

Betty Jean Gray, 91, of Churubusco, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at her home. Born November 5, 1929 in Columbia City, she was the daughter of George Earl and Mary Alice (Addis) Loe.

She attended Columbia City High School. On October 30, 1947, Betty married Paul Gray. In 1958, they moved to the farm where she spent the rest of her life at. Along with helping on the family farm, Betty worked for  at the Dana Distribution Center in Churubusco for 25 years. She was an active and charter member of Charter Oak Church and enjoyed having breakfast with her church friends. Betty was thoughtful, caring, honest and determined. She was an extremely hard worker, was known to be a go-getter, and was always doing something for someone. Even though Betty quilted with her daughter, she was a talented embroiderer. Betty loved and took great pride in tending to her many flower gardens on her farm and at the church.

Survivors include her son, Paul (Florence) Gray; daughters, Mary (Billy) Orr and Beth (Jim) Franklin, 9 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Gray in 1980; daughter, Susan Detwiller in 2004; brothers, Paul Loe and Guy Loe; sisters, Donna Belle Sroufe and Marcia Maley; and an infant great-granddaughter.

Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 8, 2021 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Charter Oak Church, 4899 S 300 E-57, Churubusco with Pastor Aaron Peer officiating. Burial will take place at Christian Chapel Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
