Bonnie Mae Sheley-Knowles, 81, of Tri-Lakes, Columbia City, IN passed away at her Shriner Lake residence at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2007. She had been in failing health for the past 2 years. She was born on July 11, 1926 in Benton, IN, the daughter of Eldon Sylvester and Blossom Glee (Miller) Miller.
She graduated from Ligonier High School with the Class of 1944. She was first married to DeWayne Sheley in May 1945 and was separated in 1966. Her second marriage was to George DuWayne Knowles at Tri-Lakes in 1995. She was a factory worker, secretary, waitress and lastly was employed by the Whitley County Senior Citizens, Columbia City. She was an avid shopper and housecleaner, liked to gamble, loved Web TV, cats and Elvis Pressley, spending time with her grandchildren and visiting friends.
She is survived by her husband, George DuWayne Knowles, Columbia City, IN; 1 daughter, Karen (Alosis) Buchheit, Fort Wayne, IN; 1 son, Bruce DeWayne Sheley, Columbia City, IN; 1 grandson, Joshua (Millissa) Buchheit, Fort Wayne, IN; 2 great grandchildren, Claire and Sam Buchheit, both of Fort Wayne, IN; 1 sister, Georgina Moser, Ligonier, IN; 2 step daughters, Debbie Knowles, Elkhart, IN and Sheila, Michigan and 1 step son, Jim Knowles, Elkhart, IN. She is preceded in death by her parents and twin sister, Dixie Donham.
Visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with Deaconess Karen Kosberg Anderson, Chaplain for Parkview Hospice. A private family burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Ligonier, IN. Memorial bequests may be given in Mrs. Sheley-Knowles memory to Parkview Hospice.
