Brenda Kay Gawthrop, age 62, of Columbia City, IN, died at 7:45 a.m. on Monday, July 30, 2007 at her home. Born in Fort Wayne, IN, on November 4, 1944, she was the daughter of George Lewis and Nola Maxine (Herron) Jones.

A lifetime Whitley County resident, she graduated with the Class of 1963 from Columbia City High School, Columbia City. On December 4, 1960, she married Fred A. Gawthrop at Evangelical United Brethren Church, Columbia City. She was formerly employed by Blue Bell, Otto Behrens as an accounting secretary and Randys Appliance as a secretary. In her spare time, she loved to spend time near the lake at Pic-A-Spot Campground in North Webster, IN.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Fred A. Gawthrop of Columbia City; sons, Randy (Lisa) Gawthrop, 8350 W 400 S,South Whitley, IN 46787 (260-723-6108) and Troy (Mindi) Gawthrop, 981 E 100 S, Columbia City, IN 46725 (260-248-8164); daughter, Laurie (Chad) Richter, 323 N Main Street, Columbia City, IN 46725 (260-244-4277); 8 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her parents and sister, Janet L. Anderson preceded her in death.

Visitation is Wednesday, August 1, 2007 from 2-4 6-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday, August 2, 2007 at the funeral home with Pastor George Reser of First Church of God officiating. Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery, Columbia City. Memorial bequests may be given in Mrs. Gawthrops memory to the American Cancer Society.
