Carol Byers

Carol Elaine Byers, age 76, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 1:08 pm on Wednesday August 28, 2024, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born on May 4, 1948, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of James W. and Vida G. (Cravens) Craft.

Carol was a lifetime Whitley County resident. She attended Columbia City Joint High School and graduated with the Class of 1966. On November 20, 1970, Carol married Steven Max Byers in Columbia City. She was a former member of St. Matthew’s Community Church, Columbia City. Carol enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and listening to music in her free time. She was loved and adored by all who knew her.

Carol worked as a Press Operator at Precision Plastics, Columbia City from 1975-1985. She then worked as an Environmentalist at Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City from 1985-1989. Carol was named Employee of the Year in 1988. In 1989 she started her own in-home elderly care service and continued that until her retirement. 

Survivors include her children DeeDee Byers Sowers and Jason Byers, both of Columbia City; grandchildren Abby Byers of Columbia City and James Byers of Auburn; great-grandchildren Wesley Byers and Tinley Byers, both of Columbia City; and her beloved cat Hope.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Steven Max Byers.

A memorial service for Carol will be held at 6:00 pm on Tuesday September 10, 2024, at DeMoney Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, with calling two hours prior.

Memorial contributions in memory of Carol may be made to DeMoney Grimes towards her final expenses.
