Carol Sue Harris

A loving lady of both Jesus and her family, Carol Harris made it clear how important it was to serve her Lord, her church and be there for her family. She always had a shoulder for you to cry on, was there for everyone and frequently invited strangers over for dinner.

With the world being consumed with all the efforts in supporting and looking for an end to WWII, in rural Noble County, Indiana, Cletus Sr. and Nora (Halsey) Murphy welcomed their 10th child into their hearts and home on April 24, 1944. Carol Sue Murphy was born in Wolf Lake and grew up on the family farm. Being the youngest child, she did not have the same responsibilities of chores on the farm like her siblings, but Carol still knew the value of taking care of a family and doing what it takes for your family.

While attending Wolf Lake High School, Carol worked at a restaurant when Ronnie A. Harris noticed her. He knew he had to get a date with her and through a friend, they went on a double date. It may have not been love at first site for Carol, but persistency paid off for Ronnie and after Carol graduated with the Class of 1962, the two were married on August 18, 1962.

Carol and Ronnie over the next few years expanded their family and welcomed two daughters and a son, Rhonda, Stacey and Scott. Unfortunately for the family, Scottie would pass away as an infant.  She was a proud mother who took pride in being a homemaker but also worked for Victor Gasket and Magnavox and cleaned houses for numerous years before retiring. She was a member of Christ's Hope Ministries & Church where she was involved with the women’s ministries and helped with bereavement dinners.

Carol enjoyed bowling and loved taking trips to Kentucky where her family was originally from and learning about her family heritage. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and a special trip to the Toledo Zoo with her daughter and granddaughters. She found relaxation in watching the Hallmark Channel and games shows along with any movie with Julia Roberts in it. Carol also enjoyed a time or two playing the slot machines at various casinos.

In the early hours of Saturday, August 29, 2020, Carol Sue Harris passed away at her home in LaOtto, Indiana at the age of 76. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Ronnie Harris; daughters, Rhonda (Kevin) Dellinger and Stacey Harris; sister, Anna May Till; brother, Roy Murphy; granddaughters, Tara Folds and Morgan Dellinger, and 6 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Scott Harris; sisters, Elizabeth Simon, Bessie Stabler, Alice Gaff and Rosie McGinnis; brothers, Cletus Murphy Jr, Charles “Bob” Murphy and Garad Murphy; and two great-great twin grandsons.

A gathering of family and friends will be 3-7p.m. Wednesday, September 2,2020 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City. With the current Executive Order, face masks are required for attendance and preferred by the family. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday with calling an hour prior at the funeral home.
