Charles Stephen Kleman Sr., age 81, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 1:08 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at his home. Born on September 16, 1932 in Johnstown, PA, he was the son of John Kleman Sr. and Julia (Tuschak) Kleman.
He graduated from Johnstown High School with the Class of 1950. He served in the Marines during the Korean War. He moved to Columbia City in 1979.
He retired from Magnavox Co. after 30 years of service and then took a position as Merchandise Stocker with Scott's Food Market.He had been a member of Columbia City Church of Christ and the VFW.
Survivors include his daughter, Wendy Allen of Ohio and Roberta Kleman of Oregon; sons, Charles (Carin Cole) Kleman, Jr. of Fort Wayne and Bruce Kleman of Alaska; step-daughters, Flava Galbreath of Massachusetts and Norma (John) Bortner of Auburn; step-sons, Morris (Cindy) Galbreath of Colorado and Millard (Ranita)Galbreath of Columbia City; one sister, two brothers; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peggy Joan Kleman; and daughter, Kathleen Williams.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. The funeral service starts at 4 p.m.A private burial will follow at South Park (Annex) Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given in Mr. Kleman's memory to the VFW.
