Charlotte Alberta Pittman, 87, died at 6:43 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at the Visiting Nurse Hospice Home in Fort Wayne, IN. Mrs. Pittman had been in failing health for the past several months; however, she became suddenly ill on Tuesday and was taken to Lutheran Hospital. Born on December 8, 1920 in Hamilton Township, MI, she was the daughter of Adam Bryan and Irene A. (Eggleston) Dayrenger.
She graduated from Ithaca High School with the Class of 1938. On March 8, 1941, she married Ronald Eugene Pittman in Ithaca, MI. A former resident of Hemlock and St. John, Michigan, she moved to South Whitley in 2003. A devoted wife and homemaker, she assisted her husband on the family farm and she worked as a nurse in Carson City, MI.
Survivors include 1 son, Gale E. (Rita) Pittman of South Whitley, IN; 1 daughter, Peggy (Kenneth) Royer, Roswell, GA; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Marcel (Pat) Evitts and sister, Gene Dausette both of Ithaca, MI; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Adam and Irene Dayrenger, and step mother, Cicle Dayrenger, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ronald E. Pittman, who passed away on September 14, 2006 and sister, Betty Helsel.
Visitation is 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with funeral service following at 12 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Pastor Harry Gates will officiate. Burial will follow at Nolt Cemetery, Columbia City, IN. Memorial bequests may be given in Mrs. Pittmans memory to Visiting Nurse Hospice Home, 5910 Homestead Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46814. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
