Chris Hackworth

October 20, 1965 — May 28, 2019

Christopher S. Hackworth was strong willed, had a joking and teasing personality. He loved to have fun and spend time with his family. With several obstacles thrown his way, he worked hard to overcome them. He was born October 20, 1965 in Goshen, Indiana and he was the adopted son of Morris S. Hackworth and Jeannine (Gagnon) Seabolt. Chris lived a short time as a child in Churubusco and Iowa but spent much of his youth growing up in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He enjoyed the outdoors by camping, fishing, and going hunting. He played football and would graduate Pueblo High School with the Class of 1984 and attended Dixie State.

With an adventurous side of him, he made the move to San Diego, California where a friend of his lived. He eventually made his way back to Colorado and a job opportunity came his way to working with his uncle and Chris moved to Silver Lake, Indiana. Through a cousin, he met a young gal that would change his life's course. Lisa Pettigrew agreed to go on a blind double date with her sister-in-law's cousin. The date started out at Pizza Hut and then they all went to watch the movie, See No Evil, Hear No Evil. As fate would have it, Chris and Lisa would fall in love and on December 17, 1994, they were married at Columbia City First Church of God, where they currently are members.

They would welcome two daughters into their life and home over the next several years, Rylee and Hailey. Chris would become a car mechanic and worked at a few various places including Rhoades Automotive where he worked until his health forced him to retire in November of 2018. Chris enjoyed the time going on road trips and camping with his family. He found relaxation being outdoors, fishing and golfing in addition to watching football.

Life forever changed for Chris's family when he passed away at 8:33 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Hackworth; two daughters, Rylee Hackworth and Hailey Hackworth, both of Columbia City; sister, Heather (Brian) Rice, of Fort Wayne; brothers, Jeff (Mary) Hackworth, of Colorado and Noel Hackworth, of California; mother-in-law, Garnet Pettigrew, of Columbia City; and serval other loving family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris Hackworth and Jeannine Seabolt.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2019 at Oak Grove (Compton) Cemetery near the intersection of Keiser and Raber Road, south of Columbia City.
