Cora Barney, 92, of Columbia City, Ind. passed away at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Renaissance Village, Fort Wayne. Born on August 18, 1922 in Kosciusko County, she was the daughter of Ralph J. and Pearl C. (Goppert) Bailey.
She was a Kosciusko County resident until her marriage to William C. Barney on May 22, 1984; she then moved to Columbia City.She graduated from Pierceton High School with the Class of 1941.Besides being a homemaker and helping with the family farm, she had worked at the Party Shop and Azars in Warsaw and was a member of the Moose.
Survivors include her husband, William C. Barney; son, Robert P. (Gayle) Murphy of Larwill; step-daughter, Barbara J. (Joseph) Clark of Fort Wayne; sister, Helen (Don) Aldrich of Warsaw; brothers, Ralph (Myrna) Bailey of Columbia City and Donald Bailey of Warsaw; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Robert Murphy; second husband, Howard Nebelung; daughter, Judy E. Walters; sister, Ruby Widman; brothers, Robert Bailey and Lewis Bailey; and grandchildren, Sean Patrick Murphy, Melody Boyer and Jack Linn Cutler.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wed., October 22, 2014 at the funeral home with Diane Samuels officiating and eulogy by Ralph Bailey. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton. Memorial gifts may be given in Mrs. Barney's memory to the Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
