DANIEL D. ROCK

February 3, 1931 — January 14, 2008

Daniel D. Rock, 76, of Columbia City, IN died at 2:25 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2008 at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City, IN. He was born on February 3, 1931 in Whitley County, IN the son of David Peter and Helen Teresa (Wolf) Rock.

He first lived in Richland Township, Whitley County until his family moved to a farm in Union Township in 1933. He graduated from Coesse High School with the Class of 1949. Following the 4 years he served in the United States Air Force, he lived in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas for 2 years before returning to Whitley County. He was married to Martha Jeanne (Gilberg) Rock for 29 years before she preceded him in death on January 23, 2006. He was a dairy farmer and raised cattle in Thonrcreek Township, Whitley County, IN. His memberships included St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, American Legion Post #98 and Moose Lodge all of Columbia City.

Survivors include a son, Gregory M. (Kitty) Rock of Orlando, FL; step-daughter, Laura Eames of Columbia City; step-son, Bruce Gilberg of Fort Wayne, IN; sister, Margorie (Victor) Adkins of Columbia City; brothers, Kenneth J. (Joan) Rock of Leesburg, IN and John E. (Brenda) Rock of Dublin, OH; 5 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Mary Dellinger of Columbia City. His parents, David P. and Helen T. Rock, wife, Martha J. Rock and sister, Dorothy Bennett, preceded him in death.

Visitation is 2-4 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2008 at the funeral home with Father Larry Kramer of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church officiating. Graveside military rites and burial will follow at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Cemetery, Columbia City. Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Rock to the Salvation Army.
