David A. Swartz, 62, of Fort Wayne, Ind., passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at his home. Born August 8, 1954 in Columbia City, he was the son of Harold L. Swartz and Evelyn J. (Gradeless) Swartz.
Dave grew up in South Whitley and graduated from Whitko High School with the Class of 1972. He was working at Gripco when he decided to join the U.S. Navy in October of 1975. While living in Wyoming, Dave proudly worked in the oil fields. After moving back to Indiana, he had lived in Pleasant Lake before moving to Whitley County and Fort Wayne. Locally he had worked for Meijer and Securitas.
He found relaxation in camping with his son when he lived in Oregon, going hunting and shooting his guns. He also enjoyed watching the Cubs, listening to Rock Roll on his stereos and headsets, fast cars and collecting watches. He also loved the 4th of July and Christmas.
Survivors include his daughter, Courtney (Rick Grubb) Dupriest, of Ft. Wayne and Cherity Ross, of Anogla; son, Harley Swartz, of Eugene, Ore.; brother, Ronald (Cindie) Swartz, of Mesquite, Nev.; sisters, Roxanna (John) Hodges, of Larwill and Debra (Veryl) Whaley, of Columbia City; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five nieces and nephews; and former wives, Jody Sheppard, of Ft. Wayne and Anne Ware, of Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Scott L. Buss.
