David L. White

December 9, 1943 — February 23, 2019

Someone with the utmost integrity, that was honorable, honest, faithful, and trustworthy are just a few ways to describe Dave White.

Historically in 1943, with the United States being involved in WWII, much of the country was adapting life to help with the war efforts. The US Mint begins producing the one-cent coin in steel due to copper shortages during World War II. GM and Ford turned car production into aircraft engines and bomb making equipment. The year 1943 also marked the completion of the Pentagon and the Thomas Jefferson Memorial in Washington D.C., creation of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League as well as the invention of the slinky, and on December 9, 1943 the first of four children, David White was born to Delbert and Hannah (Riggs) White in Chicago, Illinois. His siblings Gary, Tom, and Carol soon followed.

Raised in Muncie, Indiana, Dave was always community oriented. He attended Delaware County Schools and graduated from Muncie Central High School with the Class of 1961. While there, he was an officer in DECA and president of the Hi-Y Club, and a true Muncie Central Bearcat through and through! Dave then went on to attend Ball State University before enlisting and proudly serving his country in 1963, as Sergeant D.L. White in the U.S. Marine Corps. On April 10, 1964 Dave married Susan Kay Jellison at the High Street United Methodist Church, Muncie. He had known Sue since she was in kindergarden and he was in second grade. Even then he pulled her pigtails on the playground. Dave was Sue's first car date and first love.

They lived in Oceanside, CA prior to him being deployed to Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1966 and after returning from the war, Dave & Sue resided in Oceanside, CA, before moving to Muncie, IN and later Lima, OH. Two of the happiest moments in their lives were the births of their children Brian White in June of 1967 and Angela White in June of 1969.

Dave was fun loving and ornery, but a good guy. He was quiet at times, but was a strong gentle leader. His dry wit and sarcasm made him fun to be around. Dave was very social, always a good friend, and respected by everyone. He strongly disliked gossip, as he found the good in all, he had a positive outlook on life, and was never one to complain about things.

Dave worked for Midwest Towel in Muncie, then was promoted to V.P. and plant General manager, which took him and his family to Lima, OH in 1980. He was a past co-chair of the United Way Campaign, member of the Jaycees, Rotary, and National Management Association in Lima, OH, in addition to having coached baseball. After 29 years with Midwest Towel, he joined Perry Corporation, where he worked for 14 years, until his retirement in 2008, when they moved to their home on Loon Lake, in Columbia City, known as his "happy place".

Dave's favorite things to do were read books on the beach and spend time at his beloved Loon Lake home in Columbia City. He loved to fish with his grandchildren and just enjoyed being on his boat. Dave and Sue took their 5 grandchildren on vacation every summer and have been the highlight of their lives. He was the best "PawPaw" ever! In his earlier years, Dave loved to run, play racquetball, cards, and chess. He was also a master whistler and whistled whenever he was happy, which was the majority of the time.Dave's favorite college sports teams were Ohio State University and Indiana University. He was a little league baseball coach when his kids were younger, but he loved watching any sport his kids or grandkids were involved in. He was always their biggest fan.

Much to the surprise of family and friends when they learned the news that David L. White, age 75, of Columbia City, Ind. passed away at 3:13 am on Saturday February 23, 2019 at Miller's at Oak Pointe, Columbia City. He will be dearly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
