D.C. Osborn, 85, passed away on Tuesday morning, January 17, 2017 in Columbia City.He was born June 1, 1931 in Muncie, the son of Charles Edward and Dorothy A. (Ross) Osborn. D.C. was raised by his father and step-mother, Mary Andrews Osborn and served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He met his wife, Jean Hartzell in Norfolk, VA while they were stationed there and were married on August 8, 1952 by a naval chaplain.
D.C. worked for Commercial Credit and Townsend Tree Service as Secretary/Treasurer for 50 years until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the AMVETS, American Legion, Shriners, Masons, and the Moose.
He enjoyed being a pilot, scuba diving, snowmobiling, spending his summers at Big Lake in Columbia City enjoying the lake life including, boating, swimming, fishing and campfires. D.C. and Jean enjoyed traveling after their retirement as well as his Camel cigarettes and Makers Mark Bourbon.
Surviving are three children, Douglas Osborn (wife, Martha), Dallas, TX, Carol Martin (husband, Michael), Columbia City, and Daniel Osborn (wife, Tammy), Ft. Collins, CO; three grandchildren, Anne, Dana, and Alison Osborn; one step grandchild, Kimberly Carlson (husband, Greg); one step great grandchild, Gamble; one step-sister, Maxine Lowe of California; and his lifelong care giver, Scott Shaw of Columbia City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of sixty-four years, Jean H. Osborn on February 17, 2016; his step-mother, Mary Andrews Osborn; one brother, Thurman Osborn; and two sisters, Barbara Jenkins and Carlina Richey.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at The Meeks Mortuary, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Road. Burial will follow in Tomlinson Cemetery, with Military Rites conducted by The United States Navy and the Delaware County Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Country Side Drive, Columbia City, IN from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2017 or at The Meeks Mortuary, Mt.
