Delbert Lee Del Hipshire, 80, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 7:25 a.m. Saturday, February 01, 2014 at Parkview Whitley Hospital where he was admitted on Friday after an extended illness. He was born on March 1, 1933 in Churubusco, IN, the son of Jesse Adam and Mary Ann (Zolman) Hipshire.
They lived at Blue Lake, moving into Churubusco then moved to Columbia City 53 years ago. He graduated from Churubusco High School with the Class of 1951 and served in United States Air Force with the Air Police. He was married on May 4, 1956 in Albion, to Helen Ruth Moore. He first worked at General Electric, Fort Wayne and G. I. Case, Churubusco and retired after 34 years of service as a truck driver with Super Value, formerly Food Marketing and also retired from Teamsters Local #414.
He was a member of the Columbia City Church of the Nazarene, where he volunteered for over 13 years as the custodian, active church board member, usher, adult youth leader and Jr. High Sunday School Teacher. He was also active with Whitley County 4H Clubs.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen R. Hipshire, Columbia City; 3 daughters, Tammy (Rob) Townsend, Kandy (Greg) Gay and Melody (Kim) Coverstone all of Columbia City; 9 grandchildren including,Jeremy, Corey and Jesse Townsend, Tyler (Laura)Gray, Derek, Stephanie (Zach Hammon) and Brandon Gay and Zach and Mason Coverstone; 1 sister Alice Cline, Fort Wayne and several nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Infant Dale and Donald and 1 sister, Audrey Lindsay.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2015 at Columbia City Church of Nazarene, with calling after 10:00 a.m. at the church. Pastor Thomas Beers will be officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Annex Cemetery, Columbia City, with the Korean War Veterans Honor Guard presenting graveside military rites. Memorial bequest may be given in Mr. Hipshires memory to either Columbia City Church of the Nazarene or Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio Street, Chicago, IL 60611.
