Delmar Bazil Jackson, Jr., age 78, of South Whitley, IN passed away at 7:14 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2010 at his home. Born October 28, 1931 in Putman County, IN, he was the son of Bazil and Venia Grace (Bowles) Jackson, Sr.
As a child he lived in Whitley, Kosciusko and Noble Counties and his adult lifetime in South Whitley. He graduated from Wolf Lake High School with the Class of 1950. After graduation, he served in the United States Army from 1954 - 1964. On September 20, 1959 he married Lou Ann Miller in South Whitley. He worked at Carey Construction, South Whitley, and Coca-Cola as a route driver and manager for 29 years retiring in 1994.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lou Ann Jackson of South Whitley; son, Michael E. Jackson of Fort Wayne; daughter, Vicki L. (Rene) Torres of Columbia City; grandson, Logan Michael Jackson of Fort Wayne; brother, Robert (Gloria) Jackson of Albion; sisters, Marilyn (John) Walker of Columbia City and Darlene (Don) Daugherty of Plymouth. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, Oakley Jackson, Ruth Geiger, Virginia Baumgardner and James Jackson.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 from 2-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at the funeral home with Pastors Curtiss Johnson and Jeff Harker officiating. Graveside military honors will be presented by the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will follow at South Whitley Cemetery, South Whitley. Memorial gifts may be given to the donor's choice of charity. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
