Deloris Ware

October 23, 1930 — March 9, 2021

Deloris May Geeting Ware, 90, formerly of Columbia City, passed away March 9, 2021, at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester, IN. Born October 23, 1930 in Whitley County, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Chlora May (Clark) Geeting.

She graduated from Washington Township High School with the Class of 1948 where she was Salutatorian. On May 29, 1949, she married Orren Albert Ware. Aside from being a farm wife and bookkeeper, Deloris was a bra seamstress from 1948-1953 for H.W. Gossard Lingerie Factory, worked at Wayne Bun Candy Factory and from 1965 until 1992 for Lincoln Life. She spent most of her life in the same home before moving to Peabody.

The farm had been in her family since 1863 and she received Hoosier Homestead Award from the state of Indiana for 150 years in August of 2013. She was very proud of her family’s achievement. She was a member of Washington Center United Methodist Church, a member for many years of the Country Cousins Home Demonstration Club, SW Washington Neighborhood Extension Organization (NEO), a member of American Business Women’s Assoc. (ABWA), member for many years of the Wagon Rascals and Good Sam’s camping clubs. She became a member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) in September 2018 thru her 3rd great grandfather, George Adam Geeting who was a minister of the Church of the United Brethren. His memoirs are located in the archives at Huntington University in Huntington, IN. Orren and Deloris wintered in Florida for 25+ years. She loved playing shuffleboard and all kinds of cards. She was a regular at the Whitley Co. and Huntington Co. senior centers. Her and Orren traveled to all 50 states, Canada, and Europe.

Deloris is survived by her daughters, Carol Ann (Richard) Ness, Connie Sue (Timothy) Denihan and Marcia Kay Watkins; grandchildren, Phillip (Jamie) Ness, Derek (Jamie) Ness, Meredith (Josh) Burkett, Jennifer (Brian) Bowman, William (Jennifer) Denihan, and Katharine Denihan; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orren Ware; son-in-law, Roger Overholser; and a brother, grandchild, and great-grandchild.

Her funeral service will be 11 am Monday, April 12, 2020 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City. Visitation will begin at 10 am. Burial will take place where she will be laid to rest beside her husband at Beech Grove Cemetery, Huntington, IN, where there are 6 generations of Geeting/Ware burials.
