DONALD LOWELL SMITH

December 26, 1946 — July 24, 2012

Donald Lowell Smith, age 65, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 10:16 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, IN.Born December 26, 1946 in Huntington, IN, he was the son of Albert L. and Lois (Walker) Smith.

A lifetime Whitley County resident, he graduated with the Class of 1965 from Columbia City High School.He was honorably discharged from the United States Coast Guard where he served from 1966 to 1970.On July 1, 1967, he married Susan E. Dautz in Columbia City. From 1965-1997 he worked at G.E. Electric, Fort Wayne. He was a lifetime member of American Quarter Horse and North American Limousin Associations, NRA member and he enjoyed driving antique tractors.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Smith of Columbia City; mother, Lois Smith of Fort Wayne; son, Jason L. (Kristi) Smith of Columbia City; granddaughter, Bonnie Smith of Columbia City; 3 step-grandchildren, Kendra, Ethan and Tony (Missy) DeWitt all of Columbia City; 3 great-step-grandchildren, Hayden, Gracie and Seala DeWitt.He was preceded in death by his father, Albert L. Smith and brother, Richard Smith.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 3:00-7:00 at the Whitley County 4-H Grounds, Antique Tractor Museum.Memorial gifts may be given in Mr. Smith's memory to the Whitley County Humane Society, 951 S Line Street, Columbia City, IN46725.Please visit www.demoneygrimes.com to send family condolences or sign the guest register book.Arrangements were entrusted to DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City.
