DONALD AFTON YORK, age 83, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Born on October 16, 1929 in Puyallup, WA, he was the son of Wilmer York and Betty (McGaughy) York.
He graduated from Nashua High School in Montana with the Class of 1947. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. After the war, he moved to Columbia City to marry Marilee J. Heil on April 5, 1953. He worked for Blue Bell for 26 years and retired from Essex Wire and Cable in 1992. He also was a professional photographer and he and his wife owned and operated York Photo. He was the official photographer for the Junior Miss. He was a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church, Whitley County Korean War Veterans Group, American Legion, VFW and Jaycee.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years; son, Warren York of Columbia City and sister-in-law, Willadene J. Holycross of Columbia City. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Warren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 2 to 6 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. David Arnold officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery in Ft. Wayne. Memorial gifts may be given in Mr. York's memory to Columbia City United Methodist Church.Please visit
