Donna Jean Roberson

Donna Jean Roberson, 92, formerly of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Cottage Garden Memory Care in Goshen. Born September 10, 1929 in Warsaw, she was the daughter of S. Dale and Kathern (Crone) Cummings.

She attended Collins Grade School and graduated from Churubusco High School with the Class of 1947. On June 28, 1947, she married her high school sweet heart, Walter G. Roberson Sr. For a few years Donna worked at a doctor's office before beginning a career that would last over 30 years at St. Joseph Medical Center in Fort Wayne. She began working there in 1965 and would be in charge for starting their EKG department. She retired in 1995 as a Supervisor but would continue on part time for the next three years.

With a strong Christian faith, Donna had been a past member of Eel River Baptist Church for over 40 years. She enjoyed going to bible studies and would even drive to Churbusuco to pick up her sister-in-law, Mary Esther, and drive her into Fort Wayne where they both would enjoy the bible studies together at a Presbyterian Church. Donna and Walter enjoyed traveling; visiting 46 states, including Alaska and most of Canada. She even enjoyed a trip to Israel that a few doctors that she worked with in the EKG department had provided for her.

Donna was creative and a gifted sewer. She made numerous dolls over the years and her specialty was a Raggedy Ann doll or a lap quilt that she made for family and friends. Her faithfulness to Jesus and her family was to be admired. She was a great listener, and also gave great advise. Donna put others before herself yet also was a feminist. She was generous, loyal, strong, well organized, and tried to have unconditional love for everyone.

Donna's bright smile will be missed by so many. She is survived by her loving husband of over 74 years, Walter Roberson Sr., daughter, Sharon (William) Malone; sons, Walter (Britt) Roberson Jr. and Lynn (Carol) Roberson; brother, Charles (Mary) Cummings; uncle, William Crone; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren. Aside from her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Joyce Roberson; and an infant brother, Larry Cummings.

Funeral services will be 11 am Saturday, January 15, 2022 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation an hour before. Face masks are required for attendance. Her service may also be watched live through Facebook on DeMoney-Grimes Live page. A private burial will take place at Eel River Cemetery.
