Donnabelle M. Sroufe, age 83, of Columbia City, Ind. passed away at 10:05 p.m. Monday, May 30, 2011 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne after spending three years at Sycamore Village.Born on September 16, 1927 in Columbia City, she was the daughter of George Earl "Pappy" and Mary Alice (Addis) Loe.
She attended the West Ward School and spent her entire lifetime in Whitley County, except for later in life she wintered in Texas until the passing of her husband. On December 13, 1947 she married Carl Sroufe in Columbia City. Donnabelle worked at Whitley Products, Viking and retired from Larwill Products. After her retirement in 1978 she worked part-time at Burger King.
Survivors include her 6 children, twin boys, Larry (Arlene) Sroufe of Larwill and Gary (Mary Lou) Sroufe of South Whitley, Everette (Lucia) Sroufe, South Whitley, Jimmie (Pat Vetor) Sroufe of Fairmount, and twin girls Linda (Randy Gaff) Dafforn, Columbia City and Sinda (Robert Hendry) O'Reilly, Columbia City; 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 2 sisters, Marcia Maley, Columbia City and Betty Gray, Churubusco. Also she is survived by several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Sroufe who passed away on April 16, 1985; parents, George Earl "Pappy" and Mary Alice Loe; and 3 brothers, Guy and Paul Loe and Donald Smith.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011 with Pastor Lanny Maloney officiating. Burial will follow at Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam. Memorial bequests may be given in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association or Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home. Envelopes will be available through the funeral home.
