Doris Katherine Meyer, age 94, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 2:15 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2013 at her son's home in Columbia City. Born on August 31, 1918 in Dixon, she was the daughter of Howard Carrier and Beulah Gilbert.
She graduated from Convoy High School with the Class of 1936. On August 3, 1940, Doris married Edwin J. Meyer in Van Wert, Ohio.They operated a grocery store in Dixon, OH before moving to Dunfee, IN in 1950. They lived there for over 39 years before moving to Columbia City in 1990. She also worked at Spiegel Catalog Office for 18 years and at Stillman Credit Office in Ft. Wayne for a short time.She was a 40 year member of Dunfee Missionary Church before moving and becoming a member of Columbia City Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include her son, Stanley E. (Betty) Meyer of Columbia City, granddaughter, Janas (John) Richard; grandson, Kent Meyer; great-grandchildren, Jacob Richard, Hayden Meyer and Janelle Richard.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 58 years; daughters, Phyliss and Janas Meyer; great-granddaughter, Autumn Meyer; sisters, Mabel Ball and Betty Ball; brothers, Burton Carrier and two infant brothers.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Columbia City Church of the Nazarene, 506 N Main St, Columbia City, with calling one hour prior. Rev. Thomas Beers and Rev. Jerry Blanchard officiating. Burial will follow at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. Memorial gifts may be given in Mrs. Meyer's memory to Columbia City Church of the Nazarene.
