Dorothy May Stayer, 84, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at The Waters in Huntington, Indiana. Dorothy was born on December 22, 1939, in South Whitley, Indiana, to Thomas and Violet (Holler) Elkins. She was a beloved Plaza Coin Laundry assistant manager known for her personable nature; customers would specifically ask for her when they visited the laundry.
Dorothy had a passion for country music, reading books by Dorothy Garlock, enjoying meals out, indulging in ice cream treats, and engaging in card games. She had a zest for life and cherished traveling adventures with her husband across various destinations. Dorothy was an alumna of South Whitley High School from the Class of 1958.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. Dorothy is survived by her children, Vickie (Lee) Stanley, and Rich (Linda) Stayer. Her memory will be cherished by her granddaughters, Heather Whiteman, and Rachael (Bryce) Metcalf; great-grandson, Liam Whiteman; and great-granddaughter, Lillian Whiteman.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 65 years, Everett Stayer; parents; sister, Evelyn Brickley; and brothers, Robert and Max Elkins.
Visitation will be 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with the funeral service at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
