Duane R. Gevers, age 69, of Fort Wayne, IN passed away at 3:45 pm on Friday May 12, 2023, at Englewood Health and Rehabilitation Center, Fort Wayne. Born on September 18, 1953, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Edmund and Viola (Clifford) Gevers.
Duane attended Carroll High School and graduated with the Class of 1971. He then proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. From 1972-1976 and was one of the last 11 Marines airlifted from the U.S. Embassy rooftop in Saigon on April 30, 1975. Duane worked for the Hospital Corp. of America in Nashville, TN then at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as Head of Security until 1991 and from 1992-2005 worked for JECOR in Saudi Arabia. Following that he was an OTR truck driver from 2008-2011.
Duane was an avid softball player and enjoyed smoking good cigars.
Survivors include his sisters Rebecca Williams of Crestview, FL and Shelley (Terry) Lamb of Santee, SC; nephews Philip (Cheryl) Williams of Bay Minette, FL, Corey (Lovelyn) Williams of Freeport, FL, and Joshua (Heather) LaRue of Oswego, NY; niece Christa (Sean) Martin of Columbia City.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private service for Duane was held for his family.
Memorial contributions in memory of Duane may be made to Fall of Saigon Marines Association.
