Dutie D. Browning, 75, of South Whitley, Indiana, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021 at home. Born April 25, 1946 in Logansport, she was the daughter of Ned and Phyllis (Beck) Simpson.
Growing up in Young America, Dutie was the first graduating class at Lewis Cass High School in 1964. It was in high school where she fell in love with Gene Browning and the high school sweethearts married a few months before her graduation on February 16, 1964. The two would welcome two daughters into the world and in 1974, the family moved to South Whitley. In 1980, they built a new home and moved south of town in rural Whitley County. Dutie helped Gene with buying and selling farm equipment and running a car wash in Auburn. She was a member of South Whitley United Methodist Church for over 40 years.
Dutie was quiet but she was loving, supportive and easy going. She loved doing anything with Gene and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling and taking cruises with her family found relaxation in reading, crosswords and working Sudoku puzzles.
Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, Gene Browning; daughters, Traci (Tod) Kreider and Staci (Dan) Beiswanger; grandsons, Tayler (Kelli) Kreider and Braydan (Baily) Beiswanger; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Kole, Boone and Beatrice; mother-in-law, Betty (Walls) Browning; sister-in-law, Mary Beth Phillips; sister, Phyllis (Jim) Gish; brothers, Chriss Simpson, Frank (May) Simpson and Mark (Stacey) Simpson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Max Browning and a nephew.
Visitation will be 2 to 7 pm Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 10 am Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at South Whitley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in memory to Heartland Hospice or South Whitley United Methodist Church.
