Ellen M. Hively

Ellen Murdene Hively, age 93, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 9:20 am on Thursday February 6, 2025, at Majestic Care of West Allen, Fort Wayne. Born on October 20, 1931, in Butler, PA, she was the daughter of Floyd and Grace (Wise) Kennedy.

Ellen attended Butler Senior High School, Butler PA, and graduated with the Class of 1949. At Age 21 she came to Anderson, IN, where she attended Anderson College and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Religious Education. Then in 1967 she moved to Columbia City, where she resided since that time.

On May 27, 1972, Ellen married Guy Robert Hively at Big Lake Church of God. Ellen worked as a Professional Girl Scout Field and Camp Director for 27 years. Following that she was a seamstress for 10 years with Townsend & Sons.

Ellen was a member of New Hope Wesleyan Church, Columbia City.

She enjoyed salmon fishing, crafting, bow hunting, and cats.

Survivors include her sister Martha (Sam) Bowser; sister-in-law Evelyn Kennedy; step-children Cindy Thompson, Ginger (Dan) Ford, Ginny (Mike) Rowland, and Randy (Lola) Hively; granddaughters Evelyn Hively and Amanda Hively; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Guy Hively, and brothers Richard Kennedy and Donald Kennedy.

Friends may call on Tuesday February 11, 2025, from 5:00-8:00 pm at DeMoney Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.

Funeral services for Ellen will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday February 12, 2025, at New Hope Wesleyan Church, 971 North 400 West, Columbia City, with calling one hour prior to service.

Burial will follow in St. Matthew’s (Hively) Cemetery, Columbia City.

Memorial contributions in memory of Ellen may be made to New Hope Wesleyan Church.
