Evelyn Egner, 83, formerly of Columbia City and Nappanee, Ind. passed away at 9:06 a.m. Thursday, December 24, 2015 at Franklin United Methodist Community, Franklin, Ind. Born September 3, 1932 in Whitley County, she was the daughter of Jesse Braddock and Laura (Pheister) Braddock.
Evelyn attended Columbia City High School. On September 6, 1950 she married Forrest Egner. Evelyn had been a homemaker, but also worked at Eastman Kodak in Georgia, Chamberlain Products, a Telephone Operator, and at the Klondyke Ice Cream Shop all in Columbia City. Evelyn moved in August of 1975 to New Whiteland and she tutored for 10 years at Break-A-Day Elementary. She also worked at Franklin Meadows Nursing Home for 9 years. In 2010 she lived in Nappanee and attended Living Gospel Church. She loved her children and was delighted when her grandchildren came into her life. She recently returned to Franklin to be closer to her family.
Survivors include her son, Bradford Egner of Greenwood; daughter, Robin (Ben) Burgdoefer of Franklin; sisters, Phyllis Bowsman, Betty Dear, Dean Bowman, , Sharon Rucker, all of Columbia City and Judy Fisher of Millersburg; brother-in-law, Glenn Western of Columbia City; grandchildren, Katie (Erik) Culver, Kourtney (David) Taylor, Christopher, Kathy, Kristen and Korrine Burgdoefer; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Forrest Egner on July 28, 1996; sister, Bonnie Egner and Frances Western; and six brothers-in-law.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City with her service starting at 12 p.m. Burial will follow at Stough Cemetery in rural Columbia City.
