Frances Gordon Stuckey Brown, age 91, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 5:45 am on Thursday May 3, 2018 at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. Born on May 27, 1926 in Clearwater, FL, she was the daughter of Lester and Janie (Stanford) Gordon.
Frances moved to Pine Apple, AL in 1936, where she attended Moore Academy and graduated with the Class of 1943. She received a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from Manchester College and her Master's Degree in Education from St. Francis College. Frances taught Language Arts at Thorncreek Elementary School from 1967-1991 and substituted for 18 years in Whitley County Consolidated Schools prior to that. In 1972, she received the Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America Award. Frances has been a Columbia City resident since 1973. She was a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, served as Trustee for Peabody Library Board since 1965, and member of the Board of Global Ministries for Northern Indiana Conference of United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her children Cleis Pipino of West Hartford, CT, Gordon Stuckey, and Mark (Julie) Stuckey, both of Fort Wayne; step- children L. Thomas (Jillanne) Brown of Arizona, Nancy Brown, Marcia Scheu, and Mark (Megan) Brown all of New York; 6 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles Brown, Jr., and brothers Leonard, Kenneth, and Lester Gordon.
Friends may call from 11:00 am-2:00 pm on Monday May 7, 2018 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services for Frances will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Matthew's Cemetery, Columbia City.
