Frederick D. Schrader, age 90, of Columbia City, passed away at 7:00 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2011 at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City.Born on July 9, 1921 in Columbia City he was the son of Raymond Earl and Francis Marie (Nei) Schrader.
He served in the US Army Air Force during WWII. He was united in marriage to Mary C. Combs on September 5, 1964 by Pastor Marion Shroyer in Columbia City. A farmer, he also worked as a foreman and planner for General Electric, Fort Wayne.His memberships included the American Legion Post #98 and Eagles Lodge #1906 both of Columbia City.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mary C. Schrader of Columbia City; 2 step sons, Kelly (Renee) Keller, Slinger, WI and Randy (Joyce) Keller, Dateland, AZ; 4 step grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren and 1 sister, Willodean Lyons, Huntington. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Walter L. Schrader and 1 sister, Deloris L. Nichols.
Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Nolt Cemetery. Randy Grimes, Certified Funeral Celebrant officiated. The Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard presented graveside military services. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Memorial gifts may be given in Mr. Schrader's memory to Whitley County Humane Society or the Whitley County Community Foundation.Please visit
