Gale W. Hull, age 76, passed peacefully, surrounded by family and friends at 1:10 p.m., Saturday, April 3, 2010 at his residence, after losing his battle with cancer for the past several months. Born on May 9, 1933, in Whitley County, along with his twin brother, Dale, he was the son of Joseph Briggs and Flora Agnes (Doonan) Hull.He was reared in Churubusco and graduated from Churubusco High School with the Class of 1951. Gale married Agnes E. Kelley on April 11, 1953 at the Columbia City Church of the Nazarene. He served with the United States Army from June 17, 1953 and was discharged on May 28, 1955. He served as the Assistant Manager of the Columbia City Montgomery Ward and was later transferred to the Fort Wayne store working a total of 11 years from 1961-1972. Gale retired in 1996 from Elwood's TV and Appliances in Waynedale. He was a member of Columbia City Church of the Nazarene for 50 years, during which time he served in a variety of duties including head usher, board member and custodian. Gale's love for restoring vintage cars allowed him to showcase his 1959 Ford Retractable car throughout the state and local auto shows. He also loved to work puzzles and was known by so many folks as a great repairman and always had the knack of finding that needed used part. He is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Agnes E. Hull; 2 sons, Steve (Pam) Hull, Columbus and Phil (Janet) Hull, Columbia City; 7 grandchildren, Jason (Alisha) Hull, Andrew Hull, Jamie (Billy) Carlson, Brian (Kassie) Hull, Marc Eggleston, Aaron Hull and Jessica Eggleston; 5 great grandchildren, Koby, Preston, Athanasius, Temprance and Elias; 1 brother, Richard Hull, Columbia City and 1 sister, Helen Krieder, Fort Wayne. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Dale and Howard and 2 sisters, Eloise Souders and Mary Craig.Visitation is Tuesday, April 6, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City and from 9-10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at the Columbia City Church of the Nazarene, 506 North Main Street, Columbia City. Funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church with Pastor Thomas Beers officiating. Burial will follow at the Eel River Cemetery, Churubusco. Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Hull to the Columbia City Church of the Nazarene. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
