Harold E. Fenker, age 89, of Columbia City, died at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at The Oaks, Columbia City.Born on January 19, 1921 he was the son of Ernest and Clara (Keiser) Fenker.
He was a general farmer his entire lifetime; however he also worked at Whitley Products, Weatherhead, and Farm Bureau Co-Op. He attended Columbia City High School.On April 15, 1944 he married Helen O. Kelsey in the parsonage of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Columbia City.
A lifetime resident of Whitley County, he was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church where he served in several roles during his time there.He also was a former member of the Columbia Township Fire Department and 4-H, Inc. Board of Directors.
He is survived by his sons, Roger (Becky) Fenker of Columbia City and Gary (Judy) Fenker of Poway, CA; 2 grandchildren, Ryan (Nancy) Fenker of Columbia City, Rachel (Kendal) Burkholder of South Whitley; step-granddaughter, Cindy (Lance ) McGrath of Poway, CA, and 2 great-grandchildren, David and Dillon Fenker of Columbia City and step-grandchildren, Luke and Briana Grossman of Poway, CA.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen on November 3, 1998, brother, Edward Fenker and sister, Dorothy Hess.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City, IN.Funeral service will be on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Sue Fenker officiating.Burial will follow at Eberhard Cemetery.Memorials in memory of Mr. Fenker may be made to 4-H, Inc., Columbia Township Fire Department, or the donors choice of charity.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.To sign the guest register or leave a family condolence, please visit
