Harold Ellsworth Harmon, age 93, of Columbia City,IN passed away at 3:45 a.m. Friday, November 9, 2012 at his home.Born on March 18, 1919 in Marshall County, IN, he was the son of William E. and Blanche (Waddle) Harmon.
He attended Tippecanoe High School, Marshall County. He lived in Allen County and moved to Whitley County in 1978. On December 31, 1940, he married Anita C. (McCutcheon) Harmon in Fort Wayne. He served in the United States Navy from 1942-1945.He has spent his entire life as a farmer and also worked at Dailey Asphalt for 25 years, rertiring in 1984. He was a former member of the Waynedale Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his son, Robert (Shawnie Foster) Harmon of Columbia City; 1 daughter, Nita (Alan) Fitzgerald of South Whitley; 1 daughter in law, Ruth Ann Harmon, Wausaukee, WI; 1 sister, Carrie Cripe of Ocala, FL; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Anita C. Harmon, 1 son, James Harmon, 3 brothers, Kenneth, Mike and infant brother, 4 sisters, Engle Blodgett, Edna Hentzeler, Lucile Strong and Lottie Sanners; 2 grandsons, Robert Ralph, Jr. and Jason Phillip Harmon.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the funeral home with Pastor Barry Faucett officiating. Burial will follow at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne with graveside military rites conducted by the Whitley County Korean War Veteran's Honor Guard. Memorial gifts may be given in Mr. Harmon's memory to Northeast Indiana Cancer Services. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.Please visit
