Harold L. Rhoades, 86, of Columbia City, Ind., passed away at 1:45 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2014 at Parkview Oaks in Columbia City. Born on November 23, 1927 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Russel Sr. and Ruth (Stuckey) Rhoades.
A lifelong resident of Whitley County, Harold had lived most of his life in South Whitley and Columbia City. He served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War II. He was a truck driver for Schrader Brothers Farm for 30 years and Central City Freight Lines for 15 years. On May 25, 1968 he married Madeleine Minnix at Claypool.He was a member of the Eagles and Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his daughters, Janet (Duane) Waybright of Larwill and Kimberly (Chris) of Lakeland, Fla.; son, Harold Eugene (Abby) Rhoades; sister, Maxine Johnson of Warsaw; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and close friends, Tim, Diana, Tanner and Tristan Moyer. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 39 years, Madeleine Minnix; step-son, Boyd Wayne Hatton; brothers, Russel Jr., William Bill and Ronald Rhoades; great-granddaughter, Rylie Powell and companion of seven years, Joann Bays.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 from 10:30 a.m. till 12:30 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014 at South Whitley Cemetery, 7500 W State Road 14, South Whitley with military honors being rendered by Whitley County Korean War Veterans.Memorial gifts may be given in memory of Harold towards his final expenses I.C.O. DeMoney-Grimes.
