Harriet Barbara Redman, 94, of Crown Point, Ind., passed away at 7:18 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Wittenberg Village in Crown Point. Born March 27, 1921 in Arcadia, she was the daughter of Harry Peter and Ersa Edna (Heisser) Waltz.
Harriet was baptized on April 24, 1921 by Rev. Albert A. Fenner at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Arcadia; her sponsors were William J. Waltz and Carrie Waltz Bardonner. Harriet was confirmed, December 2, 1934 at Emanuel by Rev. Martin H. Lobeck. She graduated Arcadia High School with the Class of 1939 and Ball State Teachers College in 1943. From 1943 to 1950 she was a Business Teacher at West Side School in Union City. Harriet moved to Columbia City in 1950 following her marriage to Roy Redman on June 18.
Following her marriage, she became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Columbia City, where she helped do office work. In 1961 the Redmans transferred their membership to Zion Lutheran Church, where Harriet volunteered to be the church secretary from 1961 to 1980. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid-Lutheran Women's Missionary League and Aid Association for Lutherans (now Thrivent Financial) Branch 5844. She was AAL branch secretary from 1957 until 1983 and secretary of Zion Ladies Aid-LWML from 1989 to 1999. She also was 5th grade teachers aide at Marshall Middle School in Columbia City from 1972 until retiring in May of 1986. In 2011, she moved to Wittenberg Village to be near her daughter.
Survivors include her daughter, Martha (Gary) Diekelmann of Crown Point; son, Richard (Harriet M.) Redman of Appleton, Wisc.; grandchildren, Sara L. (Sean) Patrick of Goshen, Christiana Redman of Bloomington, John (Sara E.) Diekelmann of Des Moines, IA and Phillip Redman of Appleton, Wisc. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy in 1996; and sisters, Norma Waltz, Carolyn Waltz and Esther Wagner; and brother, Paul Waltz.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2015from 4 to 6 p.m. EST at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. EST Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, 101 E North St,, Columbia City with visitation one hour prior. Rev. David Easterday and Rev. Phil Rittnerwill officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Annex Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given in Mrs. Redman's memory to Zion Lutheran Church or Wittenberg Village.
