Helen Margaret Helmer

Helen Margaret Helmer, age 101, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013 at Parkview Oaks, Columbia City.Born on August 9, 1911 in Kendallville, IN, she was the daughter of Howard S. and Martha Mae (Lysher) Wilson.
Helen was raised in Kendallville and following their marriage to Kenneth E. Helmer on August 17, 1929, they moved to Avilla, IN. In 1951, they moved to Ligonier, IN, then moved to Columbia City where her husband became principal of Thorncreek Center School. She was a member of the Columbia City United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Sorosis Literary Club, Columbia City Homemaker Club and the Ladies Wednesday Luncheon Club.
Survivors include her nephew, Jack Reed of Avilla; great-nephews and nieces, Larry (Janet) Reed of Columbia City, Nancy (Tony) Blomeke, Terri (Wayne) Hasselman both of Kendallville and Steve (Debbie) Reed of Greensboro, NC; and several great great-nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1995 and brother, Raymond (Myrtle) R. Wilson.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 4 to 7 pm at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with her funeral services to follow at 7 pm. Burial will take place Wednesday at 10 am at Lakeview Cemetery, Kendallville. Memorial gifts may be given in Mrs. Helmer's memory to Columbia City United Methodist Church.
