Hilda M. Diffendarfer

Hilda M. Diffendarfer, 102, of Summerville, South Carolina and formerly of Fort Wayne, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Canterbury Nursing and Rehab Center in Fort Wayne. Born August 16, 1919 in Thorncreek Township of Whitley County, she was the daughter of Earl and Nellie (Black) Chapman.

Growing up on the family farm in Thorncreek Township, she graduated from  Columbia City High School with the Class of 1937. On October 12, 1940, she married her high school sweet heart, Verne Diffendarfer, Jr. They moved from Columbia City to Fort Wayne in 1954. Hilda retired in December of 1989 as the head of the Cosmetic Department of the West State Blvd. Keltsch Pharmacy. She was a gifted seamstress, found relaxation in making quilts, and was a wonderful cook.

Hilda is survived by her daughters, Zoe Ann (Larry) Wortinger and  Paula (Frank) Rader-Glover; grandchildren, Bryan Wortinger and Shawn Wortinger; granddaughter, Jessica Williams; great-grandchildren, Dakota, Jacob, Kaitlyn and Seth; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Verne Diffendarfer on February 2, 2018; brother, William Chapman; sisters, Ethel Knisely, Carol Schinbeckler, Helen Orcutt, Hazel Fisher, Donna Putman, Jeanette Myers.
