Howard L. "Windy" Wolfe, age 93, formerly of South Whitley, Ind., passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Peabody Retirement Center, North Manchester, Ind.Born on June 18, 1917 in Columbia Township, he was the son of Grover and Effie (Stayer) Wolfe.
He attended high school at the former Pierceton High School, graduating with the Class of 1936.His family moved to Kosciusko County when he was a year old, and his formative years were spent in Washington Township, Kosciusko County and he later lived in Larwill and Umatilla, FL.He moved to South Whitley in 1986.He served in the US Army as a member of the Army Air Corps from 1942-1945.
He was united in marriage to Bertha Hill on January 19, 1942 in Warsaw, Ind.; she preceded him in death in 1977.On May 11, 1979 he was married to Beulah L. Dalton, who precedes him in death.He worked at Morsches Lumber Company as a delivery truck driver and yard foreman for 37 years, retiring in 1982.He attended the Larwill United Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion Post #98, Columbia City.
He is survived by three sons, Larry G. Wolfe of Larwill, Ind., Jack (Lana) Wolfe of Sidney, Ind., and Gary Wolfe, of Columbia City; two daughters, Marjorie (Fred) Frost of Niles, MI, and Vickie (Douglas) Swick of Fort Wayne, Ind.; 14 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Bertha and second wife, Beulah; a grandson, Brian Howard; and brother, Herman Wolfe.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. until time of the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City, Ind.Pastor Gene Rohere of Oak Grove United Methodist Church will officiate.Memorials in memory of Mr. Wolfe may be made to the Alzheimers Association.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.Burial will follow at Washington-Union Township Cemetery, Pierceton, Ind.Graveside military rights will be conducted by the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.
